Manufacturer Description
Breakthrough comprises the four-part 2000 OAV Geobreeders 2, a follow-up to the original three-part video (1998). The second series assumes the viewer already knows the backstory. The six women and very put-upon Mr. Taba of Kagura Total Security are engaged in a battle with evil cat-people. Able to pass through material barriers and impervious to many weapons, the feline fiends are plotting "the annihilation of Japan" through a takeover of the national communications system. The story is underdeveloped, with unexplained characters entering and departing at the filmmakers' whim, and several pointless digressions. Much of the tone is broadly comic--during a mammoth explosion, one character yells at another, "You've been watching Trigun!" But the slapstick comedy never meshes with the considerable graphic violence. For fans of the "big eyes, big breasts, big guns" school of anime. Rated 13 Up: Graphic violence, nudity, alcohol and tobacco use. --Charles Solomon
