Manufacturer Description

The great war between the Earth Federation and the Duchy of Zeon is almost over. At the neutral space colony of Libot, the Federation secretly constructs a powerful new Gundam mobile suit. And in this colony, so far untouched by the conflict, a little boy named Al dreams of mobile suits and space battles... until a Zeon commando team discovers Libot's secret, and changes Al's life forever.

Although it was released in 1989, the six-part OAV War in the Pocket follows The 08th MS Team (1996) in the main Gundam continuity. Al Izuruha is a normal 11-year-old living in the space colony Side 6 until the conflict between the Earth Federal Forces and the space-based Zeon regime erupts in a skirmish near his home. Al befriends Zeon mecha pilot Bernie Wiseman and helps him find a new model mobile suit concealed at a secret Federal base. The first three episodes (out of six total) play as a fairly innocent fantasy: a boy who dreams of becoming mecha pilot gets to meet one. But the filmmakers are quietly sowing the seeds of a tragedy: unbeknownst to Al, Christina MacKenzie, his other adult friend, is an ace mobile suit pilot for the Federal Forces. Suggested 13 Up: Violence, mostly robot versus robot, and tobacco use. --Charles Solomon
